Child & Adolescent Service Center Early Childhood Services Fact Sheet 2007 Child and Adolescent Service Center Early Childhood Services provide research-based, best practice services to young children, families, child care programs, schools, and community programs throughout Stark County. Current services provided include:
Ó Training: Staff is available to provide training on topics including, but not limited to: Child Development, Classroom Behavior Management Strategies, Promoting Early Childhood Resiliency, Typical and Atypical Behaviors in Early Childhood, Managing Anger, Expressing Emotions Appropriately, Effective Parenting Techniques, Managing Stress and Setting Appropriate Limits.
Ó Consultation: Our agency is able to provide limited mental health consultation to families, preschools, child care programs and schools. Child/Family consultation services may include child observations, problem-solving, recommendations and referrals to additional services as needed. Programmatic consultations focus on developing strategies to improve the overall quality of the program and/or to assist the program to solve a specific issue that affects more than one child, staff member, and/or family.
Ó Individual/Family Therapy: Evidence-based therapy and counseling is available to address problems including emotional and behavioral disorders, adjustment to stress-provoking situations and family interaction and interpersonal problems.
Ó Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment: CPST providers offer a range of services including advocacy, individual skill building, symptom monitoring, behavior management, service coordination and crisis management.
Ó Developmental Assessment Services: Testing services are available to identify and provide recommendations for children with possible developmental and learning difficulties.
Ó Medical Services: We have board certified child psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses who have specific expertise in early childhood and provide assessment and medical interventions for mental health concerns.
Ó Adventure Plus Early Childhood Groups: Our groups, developed for children 3-5 years old, focus on teaching young children the foundations of problem-solving skills. Using the evidence-based program “I Can Problem Solve” children learn to see there is more than one way to solve a problem, to recognize that people have feelings, and to understand how behaviors are related to outcomes. Through play, crafts and physical activity, group members are provided with opportunities to build their social skills through guided peer interactions.
Ó The Incredible Years Parent Training Program: This model parenting program, developed by Carolyn Webster-Stratton, has been proven to be effective and to produce positive changes for families. The goals of the 12 week program are to prevent and/or reduce child behavior problems, promote children’s social, emotional and academic success and provide parents and families with information and support.
Ó The Incredible Years Dina Dinosaur Early Childhood Groups: Time limited social skills groups for children whose parents have attended the Incredible Years Programs and could benefit from training in emotional management and pro-social behaviors.
Ó Kids Gone Wild: One hour parenting seminars based upon research. Parents can attend any or all sessions. These seminars can be helpful for families who have previously attended other parenting programs, such as the Incredible Years, or for families who can benefit from the brief seminar format.
Ó Parent Support Team: This team provides emotional support for client families by sharing experiences in coping with problems and developing a network of people that provide on-going support outside the formal mental health system.
