Psychological Assessment & Consultation Services
Psychological Assessment & Consultation Services Department (PACS) offers high quality, empirically supported assessment and testing procedures for providing understanding and recommendations for change with children and adolescents experiencing academic, mood and/or behavior problems at home, in school and within the community. Specialty assessment areas include:
Developmental Assessments Early identification of developmental concerns in preschool children is often key in designing appropriate and effective interventions for helping a child attain a successful future. Developmental Assessments are designed to identify delays that include atypical patterns of development in cognition, communication, emergent literacy, motor and sensory abilities, and/or social–emotional adjustment that may adversely affect later educational performance.
Educational Assessments Psychoeducational assessments are designed to identify factors that contribute to poor academic performance for in school and help distinguish between children who have poor motivation and study skills from those who suffer from dyslexia or other types of learning disabilities. Assessment information can be shared with school personnel in developing the best educational approach for a particular child.
Trauma Assessments Children who experience single or ongoing episodes of stressful or traumatic life experiences can develop a number of emotional and behavioral problems that are often confusing and overwhelming to child and parent alike. Trauma Assessments are designed to evaluate the nature and impact of traumatic life events on a child’s functioning and make recommendations for recovery.
Mood & Behavior Assessments A child is more likely to suffer from a mental illness than from leukemia, diabetes and AIDS--a sad truth that parents often overlook. Many children experience depression, anxiety, irritability and anger that cause emotional and behavioral difficulties for them at home, in the school, and in the community. Psychological Assessment can be essential in differential diagnosis or the identification and cause of the behaviors of concern and for making appropriate treatment recommendations.
